I had a call this week with one of our vendors. We have connected his brand to so many department stores but had an agreement that once connected – he will be taking the lead and communicate with them by himself. |
We see most of our brands getting their foot in 3-5 retailers within a few months, but this guy was amazingly getting orders one after the other in no time, and I was curious what makes his brand so successful. It took half an hour of a call to understand 2 key points that brought the success, and as we constantly learning and improving I was open and happy to learn:
✅ He always focuses on the best sellers of his brand. There are many more SKUs but he simply spots the ‘hero SKUs’ all the time.To sum it up: nothing is so special in the brand! It’s his attitude that made the big difference.

TYPICAL QUESTIONS FROM SMALL RETAIL BUYERS |
We received this email a few days ago:
✅ You don’t need a physical presence in brick-and-mortar stores to start working with them. I’ve seen this happen repeatedly. ✅ Payment terms for small retailers like this would be short, typically no more than Net+10. ✅ Ship from your warehouse in the US. If your inventory is on Amazon FBA, you can mention that; they understand what it means. ✅ Store training can always be conducted remotely, making it easy. ✅ Minimum order for free shipping is tricky. You want the volume, but more volume means higher shipping costs. The best approach is to ask them about their typical opening order volume. ✅ A very frequent question is about your ‘hero SKUs.’ They often want to know these and, in many cases, end up purchasing other SKUs as well. |
